Hotel Montmartre

Hotels at the foot of the Sacre Coeur basilica, or down the Montmartre hill in Paris. The Montmartre area mostly covers the 18th district of Paris, and can include the Place Clichy to the west, the Porte de Clignancourt to the north, the Gare du Nord to the east and the Place Pigalle to the south. The Montmartre area is of course symbolized by the Sacre Coeur basilica, located on top of the hill, 425 feet (130m) above sea level, making it the highest point in Paris. Besides, this is an area with many faces, there is the "Bourgeois Boheme" one with the Place du Tertre and its painters, the little winding streets leading to the summit of the Montmartre hill, and the one of the district that never sleeps, down the hill with Blanche and Pigalle. The latter being famous for their bars, nightclubs and their venues dedicated to erotic shows. The Moulin Rouge, famous Parisian cabaret, is probably the symbol of this colorful neighborhood.

The hotels of the Montmartre area are mostly found in the 2 and 3-star categories; there also are excellent 4-star establishments, but they are far and between. Depending on your areas of interest, you will either choose a hotel close to the Sacre Coeur, or in the center of the bustle of the Clichy and Rochechouard boulevards. In general, hotels in the Montmartre area offer affordable rates, probably below the average rates seen in Paris' hotels.
